We have employed 10 Local Area Managers (LAMs) to assist in training our 18+ mentors. As a mentor you need to ensure that you’re always available to help and support your mentee, through the good and the bad. You need to know how to encourage them to remain strong and focused, when to step back and when to step in. Mentors are ordinary people who decide to take the pledge and so it’s not always easy to know if you’re doing the most to help your mentee.
“TRUST IN YOUR DOPENESS”
Our newest LAMs Neo Sebete and Jarrel Mathebula are using their passion to help inspire the Tembisa youth through dance. “Tembisa means hope. But some think there’s none left.” Neo and Jarrel are taking under 18’s off the streets, away from peer pressures and teaching them to dance to their own rhythm. Jarrel was fortunate enough to grow up with many great role models in his life, from his father and uncles to his cousins and soccer coach. Neo however, was not as fortunate but believes she can be the mentor she never had growing up. See how Neo and Jarrel are changing lives one move at a time, below.
Neo and Jarrel are restoring the name of Tembisa by giving hope to the people and changing their lives through dance. To thank them for everything they’ve done for the youth within their community, we created a mural in their honour.
MAKE YOUR MOVE
You too can make a difference. Help under 18’s say no to underage drinking and bad influences. Take the pledge to Be The Mentor you wish you had now and change a life forever: http://www.bethementor.sab.co.za/pledge
